Spain Park High School
Oak Mountain High School
It may have taken a while, like ten innings of waiting, but the Oak Mountain Eagles were able to capture a big area win with a walk off home run by senior O’Neil Roberson.
The stage had been set by a scoreless pitching duel, between Clara Fuller and Annabelle Wildra, that carried into the tenth inning. Throughout the game, neither team had many base runners and both defenses held tight when there were limited scoring chances.
Spain Park had the first big scoring threat in the top of the ninth inning when Maddie Majors led off the inning with a triple. The Eagles would strand her there with Fuller working through the heart of the Jaguar order for the outs.
Oak Mountain would also get their first real scoring chance in the bottom of the ninth inning. After Cassady Greenwood led off with a single, the Eagles would end up with runers on second and third base with one out. Ater a strikeout and an intentional walk to load the bases, shortstop Mary Katherine Tedder would draw an interference call on the runner to end the inning.
The stage was then set for Roberson to launch her two-run bomb to end the area contest in the bottom of the tenth. Fuller led the Eagles with three hits, along with a stellar performance of ten scoreless innings on the mound allowing only three hits and striking out three. Greenwood and Maddie Katona contribued two hits each for Oak Mountain. The Eagles finish area play next week against Huffman.
