Oak Mountain Eagles Varsity Baseball lost to 6A Chelsea Hornets 6-3 on Saturday February 22, 2020 at Oak Mountain High School.
Stephen Moraski started on the mound for the Eagles. After a scoreless 1st inning, Chelsea scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to grab the early lead. The Hornets put together 4 walks and a single to score their 2 runs.
Oak Mountain grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Parker Campbell and Jake Rivers reached on walks. Mitchell Pierce then doubled to score Campbell & Rivers and tie the game at 2. Davis Gillespie singled to score Pierce, and the Eagles led 3-2.
Chelsea tied the game 3-3 in the top of the 4th. With 2 outs, the Hornets strung together 3 singles to tie the game.
In the top of the 6th, Chelsea took advantage of 2 runners reaching on Hit By Pitch, 2 errors by the Eagles, and a double to claim the lead 6-3.
Oak Mountain totaled 6 hits for the game, with Andrew Hunt and Davis Gillespie leading with 2 hits each. Mitchell Pierce & Jake Derecki had 1 hit each. Pierce had 2 RBI, and Gillespie 1 RBI.
Stephen Moraski went one & two-thirds innings to start the game, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3. Luke Smith pitched 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 run, and striking out 2. Kyle Smith also pitched one & one-third innings in relief allowing 2 runs, only 1 earned. Davis Gillespie threw 1 inning allowing 1 unearned run, with 2 strikeouts. Grant Sutton pitched a scoreless 7th inning for the Eagles allowing no hits.
