Oak Mountain Varsity Baseball won back-to-back games Saturday afternoon at Chelsea High School, defeating the 5A Chilton County High School Tigers 10-1.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Andrew Hunt got things started with a single, moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Steven Moraski, and scored on a single by Stone Evers. Taylor Bush reached on an infield single, and a balk moved runners to 2nd & 3rd. Parker Campbell then singled to left scoring Joseph Tolbert, who had come in to pinch run for Evers, and Bush. Mitchell Pierce singled to score Campbell, and the Eagles led 4-0.
Oak Mountain added single runs in the 3rd & 4th innings to increase the lead. In the 3rd, Cole Sester & Hunt singled, & Steven Moraski was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Stone Evers then grounded into a double play allowing Sester to score. In the bottom of the 4th, Jake Rivers walked with one out, stole second, and scored on a Davis Gillespie single to right field. The Eagles led 6-0 after 4 innings.
The Tigers scored their only run of the day in the 6th inning on a lead-off solo HR.
The Eagles put the game out of reach by scoring 4 more runs in the 6th. Campbell doubled down the left field line to start things off, and scored when Rivers followed with another double to left field. Pierce then singled to left to knock in Rivers. After Davis Gillespie walked, Cole Sester singled in Pierce, and the Eagles led 9-1. With 2 outs, Drew Rowland reached on an error, and on the play Gillespie scored the final run of the day.
Stone Evers got the start and the win for Oak Mountain. He scattered 5 hits over 6 innings, allowing only the 1 run, and striking out 5. Colton Smith closed things out with a scoreless seventh inning for the Eagles. The Oak Mountain defense contributed 2 double plays to help the pitchers out.
Cole Sester led the Eagles at the plate going 4 for 4 with 1 RBI. Davis Gillespie, Andrew Hunt, Mitchell Pierce, and Parker Campbell had 2 hits each, while Stone Evers, Taylor Bush, and Jake Rivers had 1 hit each for Oak Mountain. Rivers & Campbell had doubles on the day. Pierce & Campbell led with 2 RBI each, and Evers, Gillespie, Rivers, & Sester each had 1 RBI. Pierce & Rivers also had one stolen base each for the Eagles.
For the day, Oak Mountain scored 18 runs while pounding out 27 hits in the 2 games combined, and allowed only 4 runs on 9 hits. With the 2 wins, the Eagles improved their record to 6-3.
