The 6A Helena Huskies jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the 1st inning and defeated the Oak Mountain Eagles 10-3 in Varsity Baseball Thursday afternoon at Helena High School.

Helena used 5 singles and 5 walks in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. They added 1 run in the 3rd and 2 runs in the 5th.

Oak Mountain scored 1 run in the 4th when Stone Evers led off with a single, advanced to 2nd base on a wild pitch, and scored on a 2 out single by Parker Campbell, cutting the lead to 8-1.

The Eagles scored another run in the 5th inning as Davis Gillespie scored on a 2 out single by Evers. Gillespie had reached on an error and advanced to second on a walk by Andrew Hunt.

Oak Mountain scored their final run of the night in the 6th. Eli Fizer started the inning with a walk, and Campbell followed with a single. With 1 out, Mitchell Pierce walked to load the bases. After a fielder’s choice force out at home for the second out of the inning, Cole Sester walked to bring in Campbell.

Cole Sester started on the mound for the Eagles, and took the loss after only going one-third of an inning, allowing 7 runs, all earned, on 4 hits and 4 walks, with 1 strikeout. Luke Smith relieved Sester and threw one and two-thirds innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk. Steven Moraski went two and one-third innings for Oak Mountain, giving up 3 runs, only 1 earned, on 1 hit and 1 walk, with 5 strikeouts. Grant Sutton pitched the final one and two-thirds innings, allowing 3 hits, but 0 runs, with 1 strikeout.

Parker Campbell led Oak Mountain at the plate, going 3 for 3 with 3 singles, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored. Stone Evers had 2 hits, with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Cole Sester had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Jake Derecki had a double, and Davis Gillespie had 1 hit and 1 run scored.
